The Britt Family avoided planes for a change and took a driving holiday over the Easter break to the Cameron Highlands in northern Malaysia, about 150 km north of Kuala Lumpur.
We finally succumbed and bought a portable DVD player for the car – the kids lasted the 600km’s each way in complete silence, only speaking up every 90 minutes to demand the next movie.
If you’ve heard of them, it is probably for the teas. Nestled 1500m above sea level, the highlands are filled with strawberry farms, tea plantations and bee farms.
We learned about how bees make honey, and then bought lots of overpriced samples.
we took high tea in the sunshine, then scaled the plantations.
We plucked our fair share of strawberries which, despite the signs, is entirely supervised. Maisie made friends with the head plucker.
While Alma (our excellent new helper) looked after the kiddies, Mum and Dad were treated in true colonial style to a tepid tea bath at the Cameron Highlands Resort, with limes on our elbows and salts on our toes (…make music wherever we goes…?). This was followed by a hot stones massage, where searing hot stones are firmly pressed into all the key pressure points – the smell of burning flesh is remarkably invigorating.
Hugo slept a lot back at the apartment, but at least learned to eat his toes while he was there. Progress takes all forms.
Oscar developed an obsession Auntie Kate’s Christmas present, taking photo’s of everything.
Maise mostly ate.
The good news is that despite some questionable behaviour from the kids over the past year, the easter bunny did come – he found us in Malaysia and left a little note on our front door.
And a last gratuitous picture.. a brief moment where they were not beating the crap out of each other.
Happy Birthday Obey.
You are a big boy now and hope we see you soon.
Next time we come back to Australia we can go back to that McDonalds and play, we mean travel at the playground.
Love all Canterbury Britts x
